Membership fees are due as of 1st January 2011. Members can opt to receive their Packchat and programmes by email. Members taking up this option will only pay the concessionary rate of £10, instead of the full rate of £15. Please inform the membership Secretary which option you wish to take.
5th December 2010- Changes to programmed walks
Last winter some programmed walks had to be changed at short notice, and already this year a number of walks have had to be changed or cancelled due to the snow.
The CLUB FORUM should be the first port of call for information about walks, and in particular the SATURDAY and SUNDAY forums.
If you are a leader, please post any information about your walk on the relevant forum.
If you are thinking of attending a particular walk, please check the relevant forum.
It is not always possible for me to pass on information in time, using the forum means that the information is available to club members immediately, so please make the effort to use it.
14th October 2010 - Mapping for walk leaders
The club has computer mapping software for walk leaders. If any leaders require printed maps for club walks, please contact Stephen Thomson with your requirements.
13th October 2010 - Walking as a group
It is pretty obvious to members of the Club who have been around for a couple of years that the pace of the 'A' walks on Sundays has become lot quicker in recent months. As Sunday Secretary, I feel it is necessary to remind those who are more fleet of foot that we walk as a Club and that the companionship of walking as a group is as important as the ascent of the hills.
The Club Code clearly states that members should not go ahead of leaders but should remain near them and within their guidance. If they wish to leave the party either temporarily or permanently, they should inform the leader.
Leaders lead in a voluntary capacity and it is only good manners to allow them to lead rather than force the pace. While there are arguments for and against walking at the pace of the slowest, it is important that slower walkers are not discouraged from coming out with the Club.
Any Club needs to nurture new members and encourage those who wish to do more.
Too fast a pace will only intimidate steadier walkers.
* In addition to the above note by John, it should be pointed out that the clubs grading system grades walks on a combination of walk length and height gained. Just because a walk is an A walk does not necessarily mean it is to be done at a fast speed.
